Social Security disability benefits can be hugely beneficial for those individuals in Illinois who are no longer able to work because of an illness or injury. When people are denied those benefits, it can feel like a hopeless situation.
Recently, a 50-year-old man was sentenced to one year of probation for attempting to threaten works at a Social Security office after he was Social Security disability benefits In addition, he cannot enter a federal building unless he is granted permission from his probation officer. He is also forbidden from owning any firearms.
The incident occurred in late May. According to the new source, family members were concerned about the man, so they contacted local law enforcement to let them know he had headed to the Social Security office with a gun.
Fortunately, a county sheriff was able to stop the man before he arrived at the office and calmed him down.
The 50-year-old man pleaded guilty in October. He has also apologized for the incident saying that he was having a bad day.
Although this case is an extreme situation, it does illustrate just how important disability benefits can be to people. Without them, many people are left with nothing.
In a situation like this, the man should have contacted an attorney who has experience dealing with Social Security disability benefits. Although someone may be initially denied disability benefits, they can appeal the decision. Often claims are denied because the medical information that was provided did not sufficiently prove that an individual is totally disabled. An attorney can work with an individual on an appeal to get them the benefits they are entitled to.
