After man is denied SSDI benefits, friends and family pitch in

It's a sad reality, but many people who are unable to work and are entitled to Social Security disability benefits are denied by the Social Security Administration because their condition cannot be formally diagnosed. One man who used to work as an executive for the Toyota Corporation was forced to quit working when his degenerative nerve disorder made it difficult for him to stand or sit for periods of time. The man, who is married and has four sons between...

Court agrees with SSA, denies benefits to widow after in vitro

A case made headlines recently because many of the circumstances were perhaps unprecedented. A woman in another state used in vitro fertilization to conceive twins after her husband passed away. The Social Security Administration denied benefits for the twins, and now the Supreme Court has backed up that decision. Shortly after the couple was married in 1999, the husband was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The wife gave birth to a son in 2001, and then the husband died in 2002....

SSA to judges: No more Internet when deciding disability cases

Social Security judges have been in the news a lot lately. Last week, we told you about how a judge was recently placed on leave. Now comes word that there some changes afoot regarding what judges are allowed to look at as evidence. Some Social Security disability claims judges say that they use the Internet as a tool to reveal fraud by claimants. But the Social Security Administration is putting the kibosh on judges using the Internet for that purpose....

Second disability judge in a year placed on leave

There are about 1,500 Social Security disability law judges in the country who consider appeals and decide which applicants should be granted benefits. Now, the second one in the span of a year has been placed on leave. Both judges have something in common: They have very high approval rates. The first judge to go on leave had an approval rate of 100 percent. Of the first 729 cases examined in the first half of fiscal 2011, none of them...

Cancer survivor fighting to change laws surrounding disability benefits

People living in Chicago and beyond might take their health for granted. People get up every day and go to work. However, in an instant, an illness or serious injury can turn a person's life upside down and leave them unable to work and make a living for themselves. When that happens, many people rely on Social Security disability benefits. Through the SSDI program, those who have been or are expected to be unable to work for 12 months may...

Social Security Checks Delivered Electronically

Change can be good. Then again, there are times when change is good for some, but not for others. The federal government will soon change the way individuals in Illinois and elsewhere receive their Social Security checks. Rather than receiving checks in the mail as they have for years, recipients of Social Security disability benefits and other government benefits will have their funds either directly deposited into a bank account or will receive these benefits through the use of a...

Are the Families That Need SSI Benefitting from the $10 Billion Program?

In many cases, an individual living with a disability may find it difficult to support themselves financially. An indigent person may find it particularly difficult to deal with an ever growing mountain of medical bills. In Illinois, an indigent person is an individual that is totally disabled and does not have a source of income. For such people there are Supplemental Security Income benefits available. SSI can help people with disabilities live fuller lives. Through the SSI program, families with...

Social Security Administration Asking Congress for Increased Budget

In 2013, the Social Security Administration plans to provide 11 million Americans with $143 billion in Social Security disability benefits, and officials are asking Congress to provide them with enough funding to process the thousands of claims. The SSA has asked Congress for $11.9 billion in 2013, an increase from the 2012 budget of $11.6 billion. Although SSDI benefits come from a trust fund, the SSA needs the money to run the program. In 2011, the SSA had close to...

Man Admits to Stealing Thousands in Disability Benefits

Millions of Americans receive financial support through Social Security disability benefits. The monthly payments often provide people living in Illinois with basic necessities. However, Social Security disability benefits don't always go to the most deserving recipients. Recently, a 46-year-old man pleaded guilty to theft and fraud for stealing close to $42,000 in disability benefits. Federal prosecutors say that the man claimed that an injury in 2002 prevented him from working. He continued to receive disability benefits through September 2010 even...

I want to thank the Rabin legal team for their outstanding support since 2022 in helping Lindsay successfully getting through the SSI application, appeal(s), and finally approval process.

Everyone on your team has been extremely helpful, patient, professional, and diligent in working through this long and arduos process. The fact that Lindsay's file had approximately 3000 pages clearly shows the amount of time, work, and thoroughness the Rabin team has done for Lindsay. My wife, Lindsay and I cannot thank each of you enough for the support you have provided through this process. The SSI decision is a key step in Lindsay's continued progress in working through her disability. The positive outcome of yesterday's hearing clearly shows how your team's collective efforts over several years provided the information needed to have SSI approve the appeal. Thanks again to each and every one of you for your support.

My experience with Jeffrey A Rabin has been very good.

My approval of Social Security disability benefits came much quicker than I had expected. I first met with an associate on April 16, 2020 and we filed my application on May 21, 2020. My application was approved on August 3, 2020, only around a four month process. Even though we were at the beginning of this coronavirus outbreak when we started, it was easy to contact them and complete this process.

It meant a lot to me every time I called and whoever I talked to knew all about my case. It was wonderful that I didn’t get pushed from one person to another. Your staff was always happy; they acted like they personally know me. But most of all I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW FAST YOU HAD MY CASE DONE. You and your staff really put a smile on my face. This was an outstanding experience for me from my first appointment to the last.

This Law Firm was very professional kind and considerate of me and my disability. They knew exactly what it was like for me in the real world and absolutely essential to help me explain that and my disability to the Social Security Administration. I definitely could not have done this without them and they have changed my life for the better forever. In my eyes they are the best social security disability law firm in Chicago and the suburbs.

I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for me, I greatly appreciate it.

You believed in me when a lot and social security did not. I was a risk for you to pay for my medical records, not knowing if you would win, if I had not won you would have been out of a lot of money and time. I have known other attorney’s, and have worked with them in the past, but they are nothing like you! You are a very kind generous human being with compassion. I pray that God will bless you practice and make you very successful ...
