Attorney Marc Raifman joined our firm in July, 2024. Marc is an experienced advocate for Social Security Disability and SSI claimants at all levels of administrative review, from first-time applications to administrative hearings. Marc now directs our federal litigation practice. He is passionate about the opportunity to defend our clients against unfair rulings handed down by administrative law judges that deny them their basic income.
Marc cut his proverbial teeth as a legal aid attorney in Chicago. Since 2019 Marc delivered and supervised Medical-Legal Partnerships while on staff at Legal Aid Chicago, and on the faculty at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. His practice has centered on public benefits’ access, and he is dedicated to helping clients ensure they do not miss out on critical income, health insurance and other benefits available to them. His contributions include work on a multi-year landmark claim that resulted in a 2025 Illinois Appellate Court ruling holding the State accountable to provide all applicants all benefits available to them – such as Medicaid, SNAP and cash – every time their claim is reviewed for renewal. The ruling will prevent Illinois residents and families from missing out on basic supports owed them under law, and represents an important win in the fight against administrative burdens in anti-poverty programs.
Marc has made additional contributions to our field of practice and our community in recent years. In the Spring of 2025, Marc was appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR) as the Seventh Circuit Representative. He previously served as Vice-Chair of Chicago Bar Association’s Mental Health and Disability Law Committee. He has also been an active contributor to grassroots efforts in Chicago to improve and strengthen the City’s homeless shelter system and assure adequate access to healthcare services for shelter residents.
Marc holds a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and admitted to practice in the United States Northern District of Illinois. He originally hails from New York and now lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter, with plans for an eventual cat.
