Getting Disability Benefits With Hepatitis C

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 3.9 million (1.8 percent) Americans are infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), and of those infected, 2.7 million are chronically infected.

Hepatitis C is a blood-borne illness that causes liver disease and causes a host of symptoms that can prevent someone from performing normal work activities. Common symptoms of the hepatitis C virus (HVC) include jaundice, dark urine, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea and fatigue.

Chicago Lawyers Experienced At Handling SSDI And SSI Claims Related To Hepatitis C And Liver Disease

At the Des Plaines, Illinois, law firm of  Jeffrey A Rabin & Associates, Ltd. we serve SSDI and SSI claimants in Chicago, Illinois, and across the nation. Our firm has effectively assisted numerous clients in pursuing successful Social Security Disability claims related to hepatitis C. The Social Security Administration (SSA) lists hepatitis C under Digestive System — Chronic Liver Disease, on the list of impairments eligible for Social Security Disability benefits.

However, just being diagnosed with hepatitis C does not automatically qualify an infected person for Social Security Disability benefits. Our Chicago Social Security Disability lawyers have extensive experience helping people living with hepatitis C understand the application process, gather the necessary medical information to present to the SSA, and properly fill out Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applications for hepatitis C.

    Medications And Hepatitis C

The two approved drugs for treating hepatitis C are interferon and ribavirin. The current treatment of choice for hepatitis C is a combination therapy using pegylated interferon and ribavirin. This combination therapy can eliminate the hepatitis C virus (HVC) in 50 percent and 80 percent of patients. However, side effects can be debilitating and include fatigue, arthritis and joint pain, vision problems, and cognitive problems. The SSA must consider the effects of medications used to treat hepatitis C when making a determination as to Social Security Disability benefits.

Applying For SSDI Or SSI Benefits In Relation To Hepatitis C

While the SSDI and SSI application process is intended to allow claimants to handle Social Security Disability claims without legal counsel, especially as they relate to listed impairments such as liver disease related to hepatitis C, only 35 percent of all SSDI and SSI applications are approved at their initial filing. As experienced Social Security Disability lawyers, we understand the application process, what medical information needs to be presented to get Social Security Disability benefits, and how to appropriately fill out application forms for hepatitis C. In addition, we have extensive experience handling Requests for Reconsideration, and hearings before Administrative Law Judges (ALJ) when SSDI and SSI benefits are denied.

    Why Our Clients Trust Us

My experience with Jeffrey A Rabin has been very good.

My approval of Social Security disability benefits came much quicker than I had expected. I first met with an associate on April 16, 2020 and we filed my application on May 21, 2020. My application was approved on August 3, 2020, only around a four month process. Even though we were at the beginning of this coronavirus outbreak when we started, it was easy to contact them and complete this process.

Thank you so much for all you and the staff have done for me.

It meant a lot to me every time I called and whoever I talked to knew all about my case. It was wonderful that I didn’t get pushed from one person to another. Your staff was always happy; they acted like they personally know me. But most of all I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW FAST YOU HAD MY CASE DONE. You and your staff really put a smile on my face. This was an outstanding experience for me from my first appointment to the last.

This Law Firm was very professional kind and considerate of me and my disability. They knew exactly what it was like for me in the real world and absolutely essential to help me explain that and my disability to the Social Security Administration. I definitely could not have done this without them and they have changed my life for the better forever. In my eyes they are the best social security disability law firm in Chicago and the suburbs.

I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for me, I greatly appreciate it.

You believed in me when a lot and social security did not. I was a risk for you to pay for my medical records, not knowing if you would win, if I had not won you would have been out of a lot of money and time. I have known other attorney’s, and have worked with them in the past, but they are nothing like you! You are a very kind generous human being with compassion. I pray that God will bless you practice and make you very successful ...
