SSA seeks return of benefits from wounded vet four decades later

The unfortunate reality for the Social Security Administration is that it frequently makes headlines for all the wrong reasons. To illustrate, consider a recent story involving a wounded veteran who is now being called upon to reimburse the agency for disability benefits mistakenly sent to him over four decades ago. A 61-year-old California man, we'll call him Thomas, was seriously injured in the Vietnam War back in the early 1970s, suffering everything from femur and vertebrae fractures to bladder and...

Historically small benefit increase expected second year in a row

After this most recent recession, many people wondered how the state of the economy was going to fare. Then just weeks ago, the government shutdown added more fears, especially about the stability of government spending and what this would mean for people who rely on government assistance programs to stay financially afloat. But now with the recession long behind us and services slowly returning to normal in the government, people are starting to wonder if this forecasts good things for...

First the shutdown, now Social Security is accused of fraud

Throughout the course of keeping our readers well-informed about the state of the Social Security Administration and offering advice about how to proceed with complicated situations involving your benefits we have come across some truly concern-worthy stories. The recent government shutdown was among one of them, which could have an incredible impact on beneficiaries here in Illinois as well as across the nation. But now there is another concern of fraud accusations, which have been submitted against a retired Social...

Social Security faces lawsuit for firing language interpreter

If you’ve ever applied for Social Security disability benefits then you know how complicated the form can be. One small mistake can even result in denied benefits, despite demonstrating an obvious disability. In the end, many people are forced to appeal their claim which can take significantly more time and can even require the help of a skilled attorney as well. But while this may be easier said than done for most English speaking Americans, this may not be the...

SSA Now Processing Same-Sex Marriage Claims

The Social Security Administration announced good news last week to people currently receiving government benefits. In a move to comply with the recent U.S. Supreme Court's decision regarding same-sex couples, the administration has announced that it has started processing the first same-sex-couple benefit requests. While this only appears to be applying to retirement benefits at this time, the administration says that it will develop and implement additional policies in the upcoming months to hopefully accommodate other benefits as well. While...

Backlog for VA disability claims on the decline nationwide

Whether you’re an advocate of supporting military veterans or not, there is no denying that a person disabled while in service of their country deserves to receive benefits. But as some of our readers here in Illinois know, this has not been happening for some veterans for more than a year because of a backlog in disability claims. Just like the backlog for the Social Security Administration, disability claims for veterans can sometimes take longer than a year before any...

Social Security Board of Trustees explains future of benefits

Ever since the fiscal cliff, the nation's eyes have been firmly set on the Social Security Administration and on whether the agency could staunch the flow of money from important government programs such as Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income. And while recent media outlets have been providing the nation with a bleak forecast that seems to be getting worse as the months go on, the Social Security Board of Trustees recently calmed concerns about the benefits' trust fund...

SSA launches new mobile-friendly site for smartphone users

Social Security beneficiaries who may not have a computer often times used their smartphones to check the status of their benefits and update information on the administration's website. In fact, each year the Social Security Administration estimates that more than 35 million views of the SSA website are made via smartphones. But in the past the site was clunky and hard to navigate on the small screens of a cell phone. In an effort to give beneficiaries more access to...

Is there a plan to save Social Security benefits?

Readers of our blog know that the Social Security Administration has made a number of changes over the last few years. From budget cuts to the fear of the trust fund running out, an overhaul to the SSA system has been on the forefront of the legislative branch's mind for quite some time. But with recent estimates pegging the dry-up period years sooner than expected, many Illinois residents, as well as others across the country, are left wondering if a...

I want to thank the Rabin legal team for their outstanding support since 2022 in helping Lindsay successfully getting through the SSI application, appeal(s), and finally approval process.

Everyone on your team has been extremely helpful, patient, professional, and diligent in working through this long and arduos process. The fact that Lindsay's file had approximately 3000 pages clearly shows the amount of time, work, and thoroughness the Rabin team has done for Lindsay. My wife, Lindsay and I cannot thank each of you enough for the support you have provided through this process. The SSI decision is a key step in Lindsay's continued progress in working through her disability. The positive outcome of yesterday's hearing clearly shows how your team's collective efforts over several years provided the information needed to have SSI approve the appeal. Thanks again to each and every one of you for your support.

My experience with Jeffrey A Rabin has been very good.

My approval of Social Security disability benefits came much quicker than I had expected. I first met with an associate on April 16, 2020 and we filed my application on May 21, 2020. My application was approved on August 3, 2020, only around a four month process. Even though we were at the beginning of this coronavirus outbreak when we started, it was easy to contact them and complete this process.

Thank you so much for all you and the staff have done for me.

It meant a lot to me every time I called and whoever I talked to knew all about my case. It was wonderful that I didn’t get pushed from one person to another. Your staff was always happy; they acted like they personally know me. But most of all I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW FAST YOU HAD MY CASE DONE. You and your staff really put a smile on my face. Thank you for doing what I couldn’t get done. Everyone will know Jeffrey A. Rabin & Associate

This was an outstanding experience for me from my first appointment to the last.

This Law Firm was very professional kind and considerate of me and my disability. They knew exactly what it was like for me in the real world and absolutely essential to help me explain that and my disability to the Social Security Administration. I definitely could not have done this without them and they have changed my life for the better forever. In my eyes they are the best social security disability law firm in Chicago and the suburbs.

I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for me, I greatly appreciate it.

You believed in me when a lot and social security did not. I was a risk for you to pay for my medical records, not knowing if you would win, if I had not won you would have been out of a lot of money and time. I have known other attorney’s, and have worked with them in the past, but they are nothing like you! You are a very kind generous human being with compassion. I pray that God will bless you practice and make you very successful ...
