Ways to Improve Your Mental Health

In honor of May being National Mental Health Month, our social security lawyer in Chicago wants to shed light on a large number of people worldwide that are struggling with mental health issues. Some individuals are suffering to the point of not being able to hold a job and turning to SSI advocates for help gaining disability benefits.

We know that there is no such thing as a quick fix for those suffering from a mental illness, but we have compiled a list of helpful coping mechanisms to help ease your stress.

Exercise

Even if it means going for a 30-minute walk every day, exercise is an integral part of both your physical health and your mental health. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins that help combat anxiety, stress and depression. As an added bonus, try to exercise outside to also get the benefits of vitamin D from the sunshine!

Practice Gratitude

Time and time again, gratitude is linked to improving your well-being and your mental health. One easy way to practice gratitude is by keeping a journal that you write in every day, compiling a gratitude list. Take 5 minutes at the end of the day and express all of the things that made you happy that day.

Open Up to Others

We all go through struggles, so opening up to those close to you is a great way to get negative energy out and talk through different frustrating scenarios. You’ll quickly realize how much other people value you in their lives, which can have a positive impact on how you view yourself as well.
