Your Mental Health & COVID-19

Published on May 14th, 2020

To say that right now is an unprecedented time for our world is an understatement. If you’ve had feelings of uneasiness develop in response to the outbreak of COVID-19, know that you are not alone in feeling this way. Our disability lawyer in Illinois has continued to help those in need get benefits during this difficult time, but we have all experienced a difference in our day-to-day lives. As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, how to take care of your mental health couldn’t be a timelier subject. Here are some basic tips to help you get through this incredibly difficult time.

Make a Connection

The one thing that many of us are missing during this time is a simple human connection. Going to a restaurant or an event is out of the question right now, but that doesn’t mean that connecting with those around you isn’t a possibility. There are many ways to feel connected to other people during this time. Pick up the phone and call an old friend who you haven’t spoken to in quite some time. Make a home-cooked meal and drop it off for a family member or a neighbor who is in need. Regardless of the way that you make a connection, simply feeling a part of something bigger than yourself is always a healthy approach to take. \

Channel Your Energy

Sitting around all day can be exhausting for your mental health. Aim to channel your pent-up energy and put it toward something productive. Learn a new skill like cross-stitching or baking. Begin to learn the language that you’ve always wanted to speak or take up an online yoga practice. Every day doesn’t have to be extremely productive, but knowing that you are working toward a goal can help the days pass faster.

Know that This is Temporary

The anxious feeling that you have right now is only temporary. While it may feel all-consuming, know that there is an end to all of this. Take comfort in the fact that we are all in this together and that more normalcy will return to life at some point!

We remain steadfast in our mission to provide assistance to those who need it during this time. Please reach out to our disability lawyer in Illinois to learn about how we can help.
