Are the disability courts in need of change? One judge says yes

Last month, our blog discussed how hundreds of retired emergency responders in New York City are currently facing criminal charges for the fraudulent collection of disability benefits. Not surprisingly, this scandal has sparked an ongoing dialogue concerning what can be done to prevent this type of widespread fraud from reoccurring with the Social Security Disability system. While some of the suggestions stemming from this dialogue can be easily discounted as ill reasoned or even excessively punitive, others are actually incredibly...

Man wrongfully denied SSD benefits after being labeled an inmate

The simple reality is that the overwhelming majority of people who receive Social Security disability benefits rely on their monthly checks to help cover their most basic living expenses. As such, any delay or denial of benefits can prove to be utterly devastating. What can make this situation all the more devastating, however, is when the Social Security Administration's delay or denial of SSD benefits is predicated upon a administrative mistake or clerical error. To illustrate, consider a case out...

25 conditions added to Compassionate Allowances program

Those who are relatively unfamiliar with the many processes and procedures surrounding the securing of Social Security disability benefits may be entirely unaware of the existence of the incredibly valuable Compassionate Allowances program. CAL was established by the Social Security Administration in recognition of the fact that some people are suffering from medical conditions so severe that they would clearly satisfy the agency's definition of disability, and benefit greatly from expedited processing of their SSDI and SSI claims. Applicants are...

The importance of keeping an open mind about SSD benefits

Over the last few weeks, the topic of Social Security disability benefits has been making headlines all over the nation. First, as we recently reported on our blog, news outlets were in a frenzy last week after hundreds of retired emergency responders in New York City were charged with fraudulently collecting disability benefits. Second, political websites all across the country have been reporting that federal lawmakers are currently considering the very frightening possibility of cutting Social Security disability benefits to...

NYC officials uncover major disability fraud

It's not often that the topic of Social Security disability benefits makes headlines across the nation, but this is exactly what happened earlier this week after news outlets began reporting on a rather unfortunate scenario playing out in New York City involving the alleged abuse of the disability system by retired emergency responders. On Monday, officials with the Manhattan district attorney's office unsealed an indictment charging 106 retired police officers and firefighters with grand larceny, claiming they fraudulently collected any...

SSDI appeals: perseverance is a virtue

Perseverance is a virtue that parents work hard to teach their children. After all, having a mindset of not giving up after an initial defeat in pursuit of a worthy goal is an important like skill. And it is certainly important to have this mindset in the application process for Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) benefits. It is important because about 70 percent of the claims for SSDI benefits are initially denied. As we will discuss in this post, an...

Study: many psychiatrists do not accept insurance

Individuals with disabilities often have substantial care needs. One of the types of care that many individuals with developmental disabilities find helpful is care from a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, such care can have a high price tag connected to it. This point is underscored by the findings of a recent study. The study looked at how likely psychiatrists are to accept insurance. In the study, researchers looked at data from a survey of health care professionals. The study found that psychiatrists...

SSA report helps debunk misperceptions about the disabled

Over the last several months, the Social Security disability program has been the focus of some rather severe criticism due in large part to a series of unfavorable reports conducted by several renowned national news outlets. Specifically, this criticism can be traced to the assertion made by these news outlets that the tremendous upsurge in the number of disability claimants over the last 30-plus years could somehow be traced directly to fraudulent conduct or perhaps even laziness on the part...

SSDI applications by disabled service members are expedited

This past Monday, our nation celebrated Veteran's Day. A Chicago celebration of their service and sacrifice included a tribute at Soldier Field. It's an excellent time to note that active military personnel receive expedited service when applying for Social Security Disability benefits. The Social Security Administration says any member of the military who became disabled while on active duty at any time since Oct. 1, 2001, is eligible for the expedited processing of their claim. The SSA says it doesn't...

I want to thank the Rabin legal team for their outstanding support since 2022 in helping Lindsay successfully getting through the SSI application, appeal(s), and finally approval process.

Everyone on your team has been extremely helpful, patient, professional, and diligent in working through this long and arduos process. The fact that Lindsay's file had approximately 3000 pages clearly shows the amount of time, work, and thoroughness the Rabin team has done for Lindsay. My wife, Lindsay and I cannot thank each of you enough for the support you have provided through this process. The SSI decision is a key step in Lindsay's continued progress in working through her disability. The positive outcome of yesterday's hearing clearly shows how your team's collective efforts over several years provided the information needed to have SSI approve the appeal. Thanks again to each and every one of you for your support.

My experience with Jeffrey A Rabin has been very good.

My approval of Social Security disability benefits came much quicker than I had expected. I first met with an associate on April 16, 2020 and we filed my application on May 21, 2020. My application was approved on August 3, 2020, only around a four month process. Even though we were at the beginning of this coronavirus outbreak when we started, it was easy to contact them and complete this process.

This was an outstanding experience for me from my first appointment to the last.

This Law Firm was very professional kind and considerate of me and my disability. They knew exactly what it was like for me in the real world and absolutely essential to help me explain that and my disability to the Social Security Administration. I definitely could not have done this without them and they have changed my life for the better forever. In my eyes they are the best social security disability law firm in Chicago and the suburbs.

I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for me, I greatly appreciate it.

You believed in me when a lot and social security did not. I was a risk for you to pay for my medical records, not knowing if you would win, if I had not won you would have been out of a lot of money and time. I have known other attorney’s, and have worked with them in the past, but they are nothing like you! You are a very kind generous human being with compassion. I pray that God will bless you practice and make you very successful ...
