How disability claims are working their way through the system

It's hard to find a news source that isn't reporting on the Social Security Disability trust fund and its current state. That's because, if the trust fund runs out--which it's expected to in several short years--millions of beneficiaries will see their benefits decrease and several thousand more may see their applications and benefits denied altogether. So what is going on with the process and how can disabled people here in Illinois protect themselves from a bad financial situation in the...

American Medical Association officially says obesity is a disease

While many beneficiaries of Social Security Disability benefits are well aware of the fact that obesity is considered a disabling disease, we simply had to wait for the rest of society to get on the same page. That happened this month when the American Medical Association announced that it would now officially recognize obesity as a disease. "Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects approximately one in three...

How many people in Indiana are receiving disability benefits?

As many of our readers are already aware, the number of people filing for disability benefits is on the rise. While this may be because the Social Security Administration has made efforts to streamline the process, making for faster approval on applications, some point to other factors that may be contributing to the rise in beneficiaries. According to some budget analysts, the increased number of people collecting disability benefits could have a lot to do with the slow growth of...

Social Security Board of Trustees explains future of benefits

Ever since the fiscal cliff, the nation's eyes have been firmly set on the Social Security Administration and on whether the agency could staunch the flow of money from important government programs such as Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income. And while recent media outlets have been providing the nation with a bleak forecast that seems to be getting worse as the months go on, the Social Security Board of Trustees recently calmed concerns about the benefits' trust fund...

Will Congress act on shrinking Social Security Disability fund?

Two reports on the state of Social Security trust funds were released this month. While one of the reports indicated that healthcare costs paid out by Medicare are down, the other report painted a very grim future for Social Security Disability unless Congress takes action soon. In the second report, trustees indicate that Social Security disability programs are suffering billion dollar deficits every year. According to their findings, the general trust fund that pays out disability insurance and benefits suffered...

Could immigration reform affect Social Security benefits?

As we've mentioned to readers of our blog in past posts there is a general public fear that Social Security funds are running out faster than the money can be replenished. Though lawmakers are fairly confident that Social Security Disability benefits will not be affected by a funds shortage, few beneficiaries, including many here in Illinois, are as convinced. By pushing the new immigration bill through the Senate, some politicians say, millions of new workers will be added to the...

Scooters and Medicare fraud: how this problem could affect you

Imagine that you are unable to move efficiently around your house. Imagine too that your mobility disability is so severe that you cannot even leave the house without assistance. Now think about the dozens of scooter commercials you've seen on the television in the last few years. A device like that could change your life forever; and with ads saying that nine out of ten people receive theirs at little to no cost because of Medicare, why wouldn't someone jump...

Recent SSD publicity highlights struggle for people on program

Why is it always easier for someone to think the worst of someone else? Is it a matter of trust or is there something deep seeded in our culture that causes us to quickly judge what we don't understand? These are questions some people here in Illinois may be asking themselves after a recent publication gave a scathing review of the Social Security Disability program, portraying it in a not-so-favorable light this month. What started as a story on NPR...

How are people reacting to the new direct deposit system?

From Social Security to Supplemental Security Income, just about everyone across the nation, including here in Illinois, are well aware of the Social Security Administration's switch to direct deposit for just about every type of benefit. But while there are still some concerns over whether the switch will work as well as planned, the overall reception has been mostly positive from beneficiaries across the nation. Many people receiving benefit checks by mail have been mostly concerned that there would be...

I want to thank the Rabin legal team for their outstanding support since 2022 in helping Lindsay successfully getting through the SSI application, appeal(s), and finally approval process.

Everyone on your team has been extremely helpful, patient, professional, and diligent in working through this long and arduos process. The fact that Lindsay's file had approximately 3000 pages clearly shows the amount of time, work, and thoroughness the Rabin team has done for Lindsay. My wife, Lindsay and I cannot thank each of you enough for the support you have provided through this process. The SSI decision is a key step in Lindsay's continued progress in working through her disability. The positive outcome of yesterday's hearing clearly shows how your team's collective efforts over several years provided the information needed to have SSI approve the appeal. Thanks again to each and every one of you for your support.

My experience with Jeffrey A Rabin has been very good.

My approval of Social Security disability benefits came much quicker than I had expected. I first met with an associate on April 16, 2020 and we filed my application on May 21, 2020. My application was approved on August 3, 2020, only around a four month process. Even though we were at the beginning of this coronavirus outbreak when we started, it was easy to contact them and complete this process.

Thank you so much for all you and the staff have done for me.

It meant a lot to me every time I called and whoever I talked to knew all about my case. It was wonderful that I didn’t get pushed from one person to another. Your staff was always happy; they acted like they personally know me. But most of all I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW FAST YOU HAD MY CASE DONE. You and your staff really put a smile on my face. Thank you for doing what I couldn’t get done. Everyone will know Jeffrey A. Rabin & Associate

This was an outstanding experience for me from my first appointment to the last.

This Law Firm was very professional kind and considerate of me and my disability. They knew exactly what it was like for me in the real world and absolutely essential to help me explain that and my disability to the Social Security Administration. I definitely could not have done this without them and they have changed my life for the better forever. In my eyes they are the best social security disability law firm in Chicago and the suburbs.

I wanted to say thank you for everything that you did for me, I greatly appreciate it.

You believed in me when a lot and social security did not. I was a risk for you to pay for my medical records, not knowing if you would win, if I had not won you would have been out of a lot of money and time. I have known other attorney’s, and have worked with them in the past, but they are nothing like you! You are a very kind generous human being with compassion. I pray that God will bless you practice and make you very successful ...
